Mooring is an essential part of any yachtsman's life. Sasha Goron from the Interparus team will show you how to do it!

This topic is perfectly covered in the video by Sasha Goron, skipper of the Interparus team, called "How to coil a rope or mooring".

What kind of rope will do?

In order to boom a rope, you must first find the rope. Will any rope do? Absolutely not. We need a strong and reliable rope that will be able to withstand heavy loads. ‍

In the attached video, Sasha uses a 14 millimeter thick Liros Murex rope with a length of 15 meters. If you want to practice at home, you can use a slightly smaller rope.‍It is also important that the rope you choose is flexible enough to use.

There are 14-millimeter ropes with a very high stiffness that does not allow the rope to bend properly. This is not suitable for us either.

How do you bungee rope?

In actual fact, coiling a rope is a fairly simple process, which nevertheless requires some experience and skill. We are sure that with enough attempts, a person with no experience in working with moorings or ropes will be able to coil a rope by himself.‍

First of all, it is necessary to untangle the rope. Next, it is necessary to determine the size of the future coil. We don't need rulers or meters for this - we have hands! ‍The span of an adult's arms is approximately equal to the height of that person.

Thanks to this simple knowledge, you can easily measure the size of the coil you need. Then fold the rope as follows (see photo 1).

Note the circled section of rope (see photo 2). This piece of rope is called the running end. It should face downwards. Cast the rest of the rope in the same way as in the first photo.

When throwing the rope on, twist it to avoid kinks and lay it neatly. The neater the coil is laid, the easier it will be to work with. The rope is continued until there is about two meters of free rope left (see photo 3).

Over the rings of rope you should now put 3 slags on top of them. Then pass the rest of the rope through the top ring and throw it over the top of the same ring (see photo 4).  As a result, we have a full-fledged coil, which can be carefully stacked in the locker and used if necessary (see photo 5).

To get a better understanding of rope coiling, we recommend watching our video!
